For facilitating the development of biotechnology in the State, Government of Gujarat has constituted Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission, under the aegis of Department of Science and Technology.

IIT Indore| Postdoctoral Position

Applications are invited from motivated and eligible candidates for a postdoctoral position in the research project “Development of New Synthetic Route to Functionalized Indole Scaffolds and Their Applications for Anti-Cancer Drugs”.

Brief Description of the Project

The objectives that we intend to pursue will focus on the development of a new catalytic system (either metal or metal-free) which will be applicable for the synthesis of a wide range of both natural and synthetic N-heterocycles (preferably indole derivatives) from easily available raw materials in a practical manner. Moreover, all synthesized compounds will be thoroughly screened for their biological activities to discover molecules with useful anti-cancer properties.

Eligibility

Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic and Medicinal Chemistry. Please note that you should have defended your Ph.D. dissertation.

Stipend

Postdoctoral Fellow will be paid consolidated salary based on the following salary structure of the DST for Research Associate.

The category will decided/recommended by the selection committee based on the qualification/Experience/Performance in the interview of the candidate.

Service conditions

(i) DA: Postdoctoral Fellow will not be entitled to DA.
(ii) House Rent Allowance (HRA): All Postdoctoral Fellow may be provided accommodation based on availability and those residing in accommodation provided by the institute will not be eligible for drawing HRA. Wherever provision of hostel accommodation is not possible, HRA may be allowed to Postdoctoral Fellow as per Government norms applicable in the city/location where they are working. The fellowship amount may be taken as basic for calculating the HRA.
(iii) Medical Benefits: The Postdoctoral Fellow will be entitled for medical allowance as per institute policy.
(iv) The travel entitlement for Postdoctoral Fellow for participation in scientific events/workshops in India will continue to be as per institute norms.

Recent developments in Medical Biotechnology and Structure-Based Drug Designing

The conference is being organised from 6th to 7th December, by the Department of Bio-sciences and Bio-engineering, IIT Guwahati. There will be lectures from renowned scientists and academicians. And both oral and poster presentations by participating students.

The conference will cover lectures on communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as Structure-based Drug Designing (SBDD). SBDD is the most preferred tool in the technique of rational drug designing.

There is also a call for submission of abstracts for poster presentation. A hard copy of the abstract needs to submitted with the registration form, and a soft copy as a word file needs to be emailed to rdmbsbdd2015@gmail.com .

The abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the Scientific Committee. The authors, whose abstracts get accepted, will need to prepare a poster having size of 3 ft x 4 ft (width x height), to be put up at the venue. The best three will be selected for Best Poster Awards

2nd Workshop on ‘Mechanical Manipulations and Responses at the Scale of The Cell and Beyond’ and Indian Cell Mechanics

 This event is jointly organised by International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS); Raman Research Institute (RRI, Bangalore); and National Centre for Biological Sciences, (NCBS, Bangalore). This is the second such workshop/conference being held, with NCBS, Bangalore and RRI, Bangalore being the host institutes.

The new and increased understanding of biology at the cellular and sub-cellular level, has been mainly due to the technical advancements made in microscopy. The ability of mechanically manipulate single molecules and multi-molecular cell components, has let scientists study the reaction of living organisms, to mechanical stimuli. This workshop is being conducted for the sole purpose, of introducing the new technical advancements, made in the instruments, used to study biological matter at all levels, to upcoming scientists, PhD scholars and postdoctoral candidates. Also, how biological matter react to mechanical stimuli, and how physics has a role to in the interaction of living matter with mechanical information.

The event will be held from 24th April, 2015 to 7th May, 2015

 There are two parts to this workshop; i) Advanced School and ii) Discussion Meeting

i) Advanced School – This is the practical part of the workshop. Aimed mainly at Ph.D scholars and Postdoctoral candidates. There are three out of eight modules to choose from. Each module comprises of a set of basic lectures, hands-on practical sessions and research talks.

ii) Discussion Meeting – The advance school is preceded by a discussion meeting over a period of three days. This meeting brings together the Indian and the global cell mechanics community, for the presentation of current research ideas, and also the possible areas of research in the future.

International Conference on New Horizons in Biotechnology

 It is an annual international conference which focuses on recent and innovative developments, at the frontier of Biotechnology. This conference helps bring together scientists, engineers and other experts in this field. The discussions are  mainly focused on the global implications of Industrial, Environmental, Food and Agriculture Biotechnology.

The event this year will be held in Trivandrum, Kerala from 22nd to 25th November, and a number of active researchers will be taking part in this conference.

HM King’s and HM Queen’s Scholarships for Asian students in Thailand:

Scholarships provided by the Thai government, for Indian students to pursue a master’s level within engineering and technology or environment and development, among other disciplines  at the Asian Institute of Technology.

 

To study in Australia

 

University of Adelaide Ashok Khurana Scholarship for Indian students:

Scholarships provided by the university, for Indians to undertake postgraduate studies, in subjects like Agriculture, Medical biotech, Clean Technology and Environment. The scholarship can amount to $25,000 for one year, payable towards recipient’s airfare, tuition fees and living expenses. Successful candidate are also offered a 50% discount on their tuition fees. Only those candidates are eligible for the scholarship, who have already received an unconditional offer, to study at the University of Adelaide before applying for the scholarship. Applicants also need to demonstrate leadership qualities, and expressa desire to improve or enhance India. Selection is mainly on merit, but the applicant’s personal statement is taken into account as well

 

University of Queensland Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships:

The University invites, outstanding students of Indian origin to apply for scholarships which cover 50% of the tuition fees, to undertake Master’s degree in biotech, molecular biology or bioinformatics. THe value of the scholarship is approximately AUD $ 16,080 per year.       Upto 6 scholarships are awarded each year.

King’s College London Emerald MSc. Studentship:

This scholarship is available for only the member countries of the EMERALD Project, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Nepal, India, Ethiopia. Students looking to obtain this scholarship, also have to commit, to working  in the country, after finishing their Master’s. This is especially meant for students, looking to pursue, higher degrees in global mental health. A candidate with a overall good to very good score in a health-related under-graduate degree. Required english skills is rated as; 7.0 overall IELTs score, 7.0 for written english, and 6.0 for oher skills  The overall value of this scholarship, including fees and living expenses is approx. $53,503.

 

London Metropolitan University Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship for Indians:

      Named in honour of Mahatma Gandhi, this is merit-based scholarship, for covering the tuition costs of a single student, to undertake postgraduate studies in London’s Met University. The eligibility criteria include:

– have an unconditional offer to study at London Met on one of its Master’s courses

– 80% or above in Class 10

– 80% or above in Class 12

– have a First Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree from a good Indian University

– be a national of India

Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OSCI) Scholarships:

     These scholarships are open to Indian students to study any stubject at any degree level in either Oxford University or the University of Cambridge, in the UK. The Oxbridge Scholarship, as it is commonly known awards atleast one bright Indian student, though the number can vary from year to year. An OSCI scholar, can also find it easier to apply and obtain other scholarships as well. The eligibility criteria being;

– must be a citizen and resident of India

– be not more than 30yrs of age, as on September 1 2015.

– be a graduate from a recognised Indian university (students in their final year are also eligible)

– have applied under the level of study, already mentioned.

Saltire Scholarships:

             This scholarship is only provided to students from Canada, India, the US and    China, to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in any accredited institution in Scotland, primarily in the fields of life sciences, and technology, renewable and clean energy production. The value of the scholarship is GBP 2000/- towards tuition fees, only. Around 200 scholarships are awarded every year. The primary aim of the scholarship is the promotion of Scotland as a science and education nation. The one main eligibility criteria, is that, a candidate must have, unconditionally or conditionally, been offered and accpeted a place at a recognised college/university in Scotland.

Sussex India Scholarships for Master’s Students:

            This scholarship is an initiative by the University of Sussex, to open up funding for meritorious Indian students, to be able to undertake their postgraduate studies at the University. The eligibility criteria being; the applicant must be self-financed and must have already accepted a master’s position on a full-time basis at the University of Sussex, for the September, 2015 session. The value of the scholarship being GBP 3000

UCD Global Graduate Scholarships for Indian students in Ireland:

            The scholarships are for Indian students for a one-year Master’s course at the University College Dublin. These scholarships give high funding and is sought after.

UCL Global Excellence Scholarships for International students:

          These scholarships are provided to Indian students to pursue their postgraduate studies or higher, on any program under the University College of London. The scholarships are worth GBP 5,000 each. Students must already have received an offer of a place, in the desired department, to be eligible to apply. Any subject course, taught at the postgraduate level at the University COllege, london, can be chosen. The scholarships are based on academic excellence, achievements and potential. British Council GREAT Scholarships for Indian Students:

           These scholarships are co-funded by the British Council, for Indian students, wanting to study in the UK, in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With a value of over 1.5 million pounds, and the number of scholarships available, standing at 400. This is the largest scholarship programme awarded in India. 83 UG courses and 318 PG courses at 57 UK institutions across all the member countries of the UK. Eligibility criteria does vary from one college/university to another, though high working proficiency in English, is a must desired quality in any of these institutions


Westminster International Partnership Scholarships:

            These scholarships are for Indian as well as other International students, who want to pursue their graduation or postgraduation degrees at the University of Westminster. The scholarship allows any student, having an offer for a ful-time Master’s degree at the university, to study any of the postgraduate courses. The scolarship covers 50% of tution fees. The selection criteria is generally based on both academic merit, as well as financial need.

 

UWE Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships:

        UWE Bristol University, offers a number of scholarships at the undergraduate level to students from different nationalities. The scholarships are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and there are 8 seperate scholarships that are awarded.

2 scholarships, amounting to 50% of tuition fees, and

6 scholarships amountinf to a discount of upto GBP 2,000 on tuition fees

Eligibility criteria includes:

– Candidate must have an unconditional or conditional offer from the Bristol University

– Is a new student, or classed as oversease student for fee purposes

– Is not sponsored or has accepted another separate scholarship

– Must no have previously studies in th UK

University of Oxford Felix Scholarships for Indian Students:

             These scholarships are for funding graduate-level studies in any subject exclusively for Indian students studying in Oxford University, UK. Indian students, who hold a first class bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution, and come from a poor financial background, are eligible to apply. About 20 academic scholarships are awarded every year, to gifted students, to pursue their PG courses at some of the most prestifious institutions in the world

 

University of Edinburgh Principal’s Indian Master’s Scholarships:

            12 scholarships are provided to Indian students, to do their master’s studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Only students who have been accepted to join on a full-time basis, are eligible. The criteria is merit-based, and must attain the UK equivlent of a first class honours degree.

 

DCU International Student Scholarships for Indian Students in Ireland:

The Dublin City University offers scholarships for doing undergraduate and post-graduate studies, on a full time basis at its campus in Dublin, Ireland. The scholarship amounts to a full fee waiver, and a 10,000 Euros stipend for expenses. The Master’s program is for one year only, and for fee purposes, student s are registered as non-EU students. The required criteria being;

– the applicant must be first-time entrant into DCU, and must have applied from his/her home country.

– must have accepted an unconditional offer for a full-time one year Master’s programme at the DCU.

– Must have permanent residency in home country.

 

Universitas 21 Alumni Scholarship:

All graduates of Delhi University are guaranteed a place to undertake their postgraduation studies at the University College Dublin. The scholarship is worth 3,000 Euros, and only those students are eligible, who have already been offered a position to pursue their Master’s course. 

UCD V.V. Giri Global Excellence Graduate Scholarship:

In honour of V.V. Giri, this scholarship is open to Indian students only, who want to pursue their Master’s degree at the University College Dublin. Four scholarships covering up to the entirity of the tuition fees are awarded to students who have already accpeted to do their Master’s studies at the University. Fulbright-Nehru Research Scholarships:

Funding is offered to outstanding students of Indian origin, who wish to pursue their studies at any degree level at any accredited institution in the US, especially in the fields of Environmental Sciences and Studies, Public health studies and Gender Studies. The eligibility criteria , candidate need to fulfil:

– Have atleast a Bachelor’s degree with 55% marks.

– Have a full fledged Master’s degree is Bachelor’s degree is less than standard time period

– Have 3yrs of work experience in the field, they are interested in pursuing

– Demonstrate leadership qualities and tendency towards community service

– Must not already possess a degree from an US university, or is enrolled into one.

– If currently employed, an Employer’s Endorsement Form is essntially required

– After selection of applications is done, the candidates are required to take the TOEFL exam, those who haven’t already.

Online applications are preferred, the deadline for which is 1st July, 2015

 

S.N. Bose Scholars Student Exchange Program for Indian students:

Started in 2000, under the an agreement between the governments of India and the US, this exchange program provides opportunities for budding researchers in the postgraduate level or higher, to opt for studying a selected program in any institution in the US. Indian students doing their UG and PG studies at a recognised institution of higher education. Students form the field of Earth Sciences and Biophysics are eligiblie. Though accomodation and airfare is provided, the exact stipend amount has not yet been disclosed.
