GATE 2018 Paper Pattern

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE Exam is the gateway for post graduate admission in all premier institutes in in India and also eligible to apply many PSUs, recruiting through GATE score . GATE 2018 is scheduled to be conducted on 3,10, and 11 February 2018 for which application has started from 1 September and will continue till 5th October 2017.

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern

  • The GATE Exam is a single paper online examination of three hours, with 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks.
  • The question paper will consist of both multiple choice question and numerical answer type questions.
  • In GATE AE,AG,BT,CH,CS,EC,EE,IN,ME,MN,MT,PE,PI,TF and XE papers, the weight -age of marks divided into three sections.


a. Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks

b. General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks.

c. Remaining 70% percentage of total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

  • In GATE AR,CY,EY,GG,MA,PH, and XL paper the weightage of marks divided in two section.

b. Remaining 85% of total marks is devoted to the subject of paper.

The Exam Pattern of GATE 2018 has been released by IIT Guwahati along with the information brochure. GATE Exam Pattern 2018 contains information about the types of questions and marks and exam duration, number of papers, distribution of questions, marking scheme etc. There are a total number of 23 papers out of which each candidate can appear for only one paper as per their interest. As per the GATE exam pattern 2018, the aptitude test is computer based and it will be of three hour duration. The question paper consists of 65 questions out of 100 marks. As GATE 2018 is a computer based test questions will be displayed on the screen of the computer. Candidates have to select the right answer for the questions for multiple choice questions, while for the numerical type questions, candidates have to answer by using the mouse or the virtual keyboard.
